5 KEYS TO COMPLETING YOUR KITCHEN OR BATHROOM RENOVATION – BY THANKSGIVING

7/24/2018

For most homeowners, particularly women, the idea of having the family over to showcase your new kitchen, often begins or starts too late into the season for the anticipated Thanksgiving unveiling.
Moving in a new refrigerator or replacing that old sink is one thing, but to re-design and fully integrate design features of your dreams into the kitchen of your dreams, takes planning, selecting, ordering and constructing.

Here are five keys to ensure a worthy celebration:
  1. Anticipate the project’s scope and possible length of time for completion.  In fact, finding a designer and a home remodeling specialist who can best plan out your project and give you a realistic time frame for completion is the first step, and the most critical.  Your project may take on several aspects such as determining your personal likes and dislikes, selecting products, reconfiguration and installation.
  2. Finding a design that fits your dream may take some time to identify your personal style or decor.  This requires research, looking at prior projects, taking your ideas and expanding them into a workable design will take time.  You need someone or someplace who can walk you through to stimulate innovative and creative ideas.  If you are just starting out, we recommend dropping by Bay Stone Depot.  They have multiple selections of natural stone and tile, and their staff is eager to pull items off the shelf and combine designs right in front of you.  This is a good place to formulate your flooring, kitchen or bathroom counter top, island or backsplash ideas and see what those styles would look like.
  3. The depth and scope of your project may determine whether specific tiles are specially ordered or if cabinets need to be built from scratch.  The point is, picking the design or the right stone slab or tile combinations are one thing, but ordering, shipping and installing all take time.  Having a contractor who helps you coordinate this process will keep your project in line for that Thanksgiving unveiling.  Bottom line, don’t wait to get all the pieces in place and realize that sequencing your project is necessary.
  4. Likewise, what types of contractors are needed for your project?  If your kitchen requires tile setters, plumbers, painters, and electricians, coordinating their schedules and keeping them on task is like herding cats.  What would happen, in the event, one of those contractors produces sub-par work or never completes the part of the project?  This could impact the rest of the contractors like a domino effect and delay your project for months.
  5. The difference your project will have depends on a general contractor who has a proven track record of service.  We recommend you obtain no less than three bids and ask to speak to a couple of their clients.  Your project, whether a showcase kitchen or a relaxing bathroom, should be unique to your style and taste.  Take the time to investigate and do the initial leg work.  Form, function, style and design are vital to any successful project, and a good outcome involves an Interior Designer or a Contractor who listens to you.

In the end, remember this is your home and the planning stage is essential to completing your project.  By following the above guidelines, you will be assured a successful outcome and a renovation worth celebrating.  For more information about starting your project, visit Bay Stone Depot or go to www.baystonedepot.com.
