Vanessa Cao from Cubic 2 Design
Her design career started with staging. She holds a MBA and BA in Interior Design. In 2011, she entered the staging industry by chance. With many years of life experience in different continents: Asia, Europe, North America she was able to quickly understand the preferences of clients. She kept trying to integrate different design elements into her projects. While she was working on the staging business, she frequently got design requests from buyers or sellers for their new homes, because they liked her staging, then she slowly entered the field of interior design.
Her design philosophy is: "Beauty Has No Boundary", the highest level of design is to create a unique, but harmonious perfect work by combining different elements in a space.

Q & A
What common challenges do you face with customers when starting a design?
"We both may have totally different design concepts/ideas to the project, also a level of trust."
What are some common mistakes homeowners make in design?
"Completely copied style/remodeling from pictures which they saw in a magazine, network, or friend's house; but ignored the characteristics of their own house. Every house has its own characteristics."
What are the first steps you take when designing a bathroom or kitchen?
"Who uses this area more? Frequency of use? Personal preference (such as any disliked colors, style etc.)"
What do you like most about designing for customers?
"After several months to a year’s worth of efforts, and coordination, the final outcome has reached the customer's expectations. I helped them to reach their dream home."
Do you find yourself leaning towards certain styles of interior design, and if so what are they?
"I personally like Simple and Clean Lines (less complex patterns and lines, no exaggerated color matching), but classic looking for a long term, added some small details to highlight the difference."
Are there any basic principles to follow when designing a kitchen, or bathroom?
"Every designer may give different answers for this question, my basic principles are:
1) Not all expensive, popular materials put together, will get the better, even best outcome.
2) Each designed area must have a focus, sub-focus and assistant matching, not every part can be the focus part."
What trends have you seen lately for kitchen and bathroom design?
"Minimalist Kitchen/ bathroom, hidden or creative storage space"
